Professional Athletes Are Paid…HOW MUCH?
thanks to Min Soo for looking up this link after our discussion today.

Somebody brought up “Tiger Woods” as the highest paid athlete, and he is indeed #1 on the list. It’s not because of his tournament winnings though (um, wouldn’t that make sense if he’s such a good golfer?) but because of product endorsements. I would guess Nike pays the most. And why?
Because consumers insist that buying certain brands, in this case the same brand worn by a favorite athlete (or rock star, or movie celebrity in other cases) is “better” than a lesser known brand. Maybe those folks who shell out the big bucks imagine themselves slamming a homer, or slapping home a puck, or whamming a golf ball down the fairway just because they wear Nike? What fantasy world do they live in?
I do admit to buying Nikes but because they fit my feet the best of other available brands. I do actually cringe if I think people believe I’m buying them to imitate an idol.
