So, What Do You DO With It?

In the Raleigh News & Observer, Thursday’s “Outdoors Hunting” section featured a picture and a short story about going on a swan hunt.  There was also a picture of a hunter holding up the swan that he had successfully hunted, shot, and now – I guess – brought home.  Tell me, somebody: Why kill a swan? Do they taste good? (maybe, I’ve never asked. I do like duck, and pheasant..). Are they something that looks really impressive if it’s stuffed and mounted and hung on a wall in your house? (aren’t they pretty darned big). Are they destructive towards other animals’ habitats?  I realize there are hunters of animals such as birds, small animals like woodchucks or foxes, and bigger ones too like deer, moose, etc.   While I also never saw a purpose in deer hunting  (yes, people eat venison – deer meat – but could probably get buy very well without it) I do understand that deer populations are increasing in urban areas because the deer are being chased away from their woods when new homes are built.
