A Sweet Piece of History

Something fun, for a change! I like listening to NPR’s (National Public Radio, 91.5 FM) “Whadya Know” program and found this out today. NECCO wafers were made by the New England Candy Company (get it? NECCO?) beginning in the 1840s!! That means that Civil War soldiers enjoyed them (that was part of their trivia question, which is how I learned about this). I just thought that was pretty cool – we’re eating candy that President Lincoln might have had, too.

Cool, if I was a cook I would try making them.
Yeah, Dianne Reem does. Which is why I like listening to her show
After the fifth straight country came on my blog (Serbia, after South Korea, China, Mexico, and France), I decided to expand my languages. So on my “Input & Visitors” page, I put four foreign languages
they are basically sugar and water with something to make them hard, plus a little flavoring. They come in a roll like a roll of quarters. In fact they’re about that size, too. NOT worth seeking out, by the way
. Dianne Reem has a unique tone and enunciation, doesn’t she?
NECCO wafers. Hmm…never heard of them. But it does seem cool that famous people might have had this food.
(I listen to National Public Radio, too! And W-UNC. And the Diane Reem show.)
