HOCKEY IS COMING!!

It’s Wednesday Sept. 16 and the first preseason game is Friday (against Nashville Predators). I’ll be there!!!  And welcome back Aaron, goodbye Dennis–there are quite a few familiar faces on the team, though.  Here’s to a fantastic season!

My favorite players on the Hurricanes:  HURRAY! #26, Erik Cole, is back!! I have a jersey with his number on it, so I’m wearing it happily these days.

Joe Corvo #77 – defensemen; he’s from my home town of Oak Park, Illinois, and I went to junior high with his uncle Steve.

Chad LaRose #59 – winger (offensive player); every minute on the ice he is playing his heart out. I hope he scores more, but he helps us all the time no matter what.

Eric Staal #12 -only 24, he is an Alternate Captain (wears the “A” on his jersey) and no doubt will be the captain once Rod Brind’amour retires.  Very strong. Has 3 brothers also now in the NHL (Jared, Jordan, and Marc)

12/4:  Coach Maurice is back!  Is this a good thing? I’m not sure, but I do know the players seemed to be tuning out Laviolette (‘old’ coach) so.. can’t be much worse. Mo is just interim, though so he could be gone in June. Best thing? Ron Francis will now be behind the bench as an associate/assistant.  Power Play help!!

3/12: Like last year, we’re counting every point. Playoffs are about six weeks away, and it’s not looking too good for the Canes. When you depend on other teams to lose because you didn’t win earlier in the year, you’re kind of stuck.

4/8:  woo-wooooo! We’re in the playoffs. Not just that but if we keep winning we’ll get “home ice advantage” which matters if the series go to 6 and 7 games.  GO CANES!!
